Project Hope
Since the instigation of our annual concert in 2010, the Ensemble has donated half of our annual concert ticket takings to Project Hope (through the Australia-China Friendship Association ACT Branch, who also generously partner with the ensemble to manage the event)
Since 2013 the Ensemble has donated approximately $3700 towards funding our Project Hope students. This has helped roughly 17 promising, underprivileged students stay at school.
About Project Hope
Project Hope was launched by the China Youth Development Foundation (a national public foundation registered at the Ministry of Civil Affairs, PRC) in October, 1989. It is one of the most extensive, influential and widely participated philanthropic programs in China.
As of 2013, Project Hope had accumulatively raised 9.757 billion Chinese yuan (of which 3.167 billion was raised by CYDF), aided over 4.9 million financially-challenged rural students (including primary, secondary and college students) and built 18,335 Hope primary schools and about 20,604 Project Hope mini libraries.
Project Hope has also trained nearly 80,000 rural primary school teachers and built 5 Hope Communities, 22 Hope Hospitals and 507 Hope Clinics.
The current costs to sponsor a student are RMB 1000 yuan ($A205) each year for a primary school student and RMB 1500 yuan ($A307) each year for a junior high school student.
The ACFS has been supporting students at Labagoumen primary and high schools in the Huairou District since 2001. Currently they support 3 students at Labagoumen, 4 in Huairou District, 2 in Yanqing District, and 1 in Shunyin District.
INSTRUMENT COLLECTION
The ensemble uses the remaining funds from our annual concert ticket sales to purchase new instruments, repair or restore existing instruments in our collection, and to maintain the Chinese instruments in the collection of the ANU School of Music
