Our Instrument Collection
Each year the ensemble raises money through various performances, culminating with our large fundraising concert each October.
The money we raise through the year contributes to the maintenance of our own instruments and the instruments in the Chinese Music Collection of the ANU School of Music, and a portion of our income is dedicated to the purchase of new instruments, to ensure we have instruments for our members to use, and to build a world class collection of Chinese instruments
The ensemble purchased an Alto Sheng (中音笙 / Zhōngyīn Shēng) in late 2025.
This is an important addition to our instrument collection, as it provides chordal accompaniment as well as complimenting and supplementing our lower-pitched instruments (such as Cello or Da Ruan)
Huge thanks are due to Huaiyan Ren, who found the instrument, organised payment and shipping, and contributed half the cost of the purchase!
